Exports of Korean Rice Wine to Hit $50 Million This Year
Exports of Korea’s traditional rice wine or makgeolli are expected to top US$50 million for the first time this year on rising demand in Japan and China, the Korea Customs Service said on Thursday.
Exports of makgeolli reached $45.3 million in the first 10 months of this year, a close to three-fold increase from the same period in 2010.
Customs attributes the growth to makgeolli’s growing reputation as a healthy drink, and forecasts exports could reach $100 million next year.
