The sprawling, über-efficient facility is equipped with a golf course, skating rink, Museum of Korean Culture, casino, high-end spa and restaurants serving just about any kind of pre-flight meal you’d want

Ein künstlicher Archipel entsteht mitten in Seoul: Am Samstag wird die südkoreanische Hauptstadt das Projekt “Floating Island” auf dem Han-Fluss eröffnen. Die Stadtregierung erhofft sich eine Signalwirkung vergleichbar mit dem Opernhaus von Sydney.

Seoul – Die größte künstliche schwimmende Insel der Welt soll am Samstag, 21. Mai in Seoul zum Teil eröffnet werden. “Floating Island” setzt sich laut der Stadtregierung aus drei kleineren Inseln zusammen, die im Han-Fluss verankert sind.

Auf den insgesamt 20.382 Quadratmeter großen Inseln werden Tagungshallen sowie Restaurants, Einrichtungen für kulturelle Veranstaltungen und Wassersport Platz finden. Nach und nach werden sie bis September fertiggestellt werden. Wenn der künstliche Archipel vollendet ist, soll er bis zu 4100 Menschen aufnehmen können und bis zu 1400 Sitze bieten.

Die größte der drei Inseln, Vista, ist drei Stockwerke hoch und 10.845 Quadratmeter groß. Es beherbergt ein 700-Plätze-Tagungszentrum. Die zweite Insel Viva, ebenfalls ein dreistöckiges Bauwerk, ist 5373 Quadratmeter groß und weist vor allem Einrichtungen für kulturelle Veranstaltungen auf. Insel drei namens Terra ist zweistöckig, 4164 Quadratmeter groß und ist dem Wassersport, darunter auch Yachten, gewidmet.

“Die schwimmenden Inseln sollen eine der wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt werden”, sagt Gyoung Gee Liu, der stellvertretende Bürgermeister von Seoul. Die Stadtregierung erhofft sich, dass “Floating Island” ein ähnliches Kultziel für Touristen wird wie das Sydney Opera House in Australien. Das Unternehmen Flossum hat umgerechnet rund 63 Millionen Euro in das Projekt investiert und wird dafür die Inseln 25 Jahre lang betreiben, bevor es sie an die Stadt Seoul übergibt.
